Do Your Research

At Onplatinum Club, we are all about our research. We want to go that one step further and address some of the pitfalls of online dating to help you on your journey to love. But beware, before you sign up and download a dating app, there are a few things you need to consider.

Online dating has become one of the biggest growth industries over the last decade. In fact, using the internet has never been so popular and nearly everybody does it! A survey conducted in 2013 found that 77% of people considered it “very important” to have their smartphones with them at all times. Therefore if you want to think about dating as a numbers game, you could probably browse through 30 to 40 profiles compared to the time that it would take you to interact with one potential date in ‘real life’.

So, it is obvious that browsing profiles isn’t nearly as time-consuming as meeting people in social settings. Statistics suggest that today about 20% of relationships begin online. It’s estimated that by 2040, 70% of us will have met our significant other online.

  1. People lie on their online dating profiles
This may seem acceptable as we all want to impress and make ourselves more appealing. Most people probably wouldn’t be surprised to learn that it’s more common for people to lie in their online profile than be completely honest.A study of over 1,000 online daters conducted by global research agency Opinion Matters, identified some very interesting statistics. A total of 53% of participants admitted to having lied in their online dating profile. For women, the most common dishonesties were about their looks and over 20% posted photos of their younger selves. For men, their most common lies were about their financial situation, specifically about having a better job than they actually do. More than 40% of men indicated that they lied about their job and/or financial situation and nearly 33% of women did the same thing.

OUR ANSWERAt On-Platinum we have filters and policies in place to ensure this will not happen to you!! All applications for membership are screened and profiles verified. You will only ever deal with real genuine singles.

  2.  Beware of scams
There are pros and cons in every part of life, but with online dating, there needs to be more caution as this can attract some seedy people who have bad intentions. There are literally thousands of online scams. It’s important to be wary of any person, group or entity asking for any kind of financial or personal information. Here are some helpful guidelines:*NEVER give out your home phone number, address or personal email address unless you have met the person and can confirm that their identity and information is legit.

*When going on a date, tell a friend or family member who you are meeting and where.

*Drive yourself to the date and keep an eye on your drink and food.
Of course, there is plenty more safety tips with online dating, but I guess the most important thing is to use your common sense. If something doesn’t feel right, trust your intuition.

OUR ANSWERWith OnPlatinum Club we have pre-screening checks and security procedures in place to ensure dating remains safe and fun.

  3. Having to screen and check hundreds of profiles can make you picky and judgmental.
According to the Association for Psychological Science, reviewing multiple candidates causes people to be more judgmental and inclined to dismiss a not-quite-perfect candidate than they otherwise would be in a face-to-face meeting.OUR ANSWER At On-Platinum we don’t serve you multiple dishes just to keep the menu full.
